Comfortable Nautical Theme Beach Home w/ Pool & Gazebo, 500' to beach, 7 BR, 5BA
We specialize in family groups and reunions. We are located in the quiet, family friendly low-traffic North End of Sandbridge Beach; a short stroll from the life-guarded beach; or walk left on the beach road for a large uncrowded beach area. Beach Bird features a large 16' X 36' solar-heated pool. You can relax at the wonderful shaded poolside patio area with abundant comfortable cushioned chairs, chaise-lounges, and patio table (now tables) under the 12' X 24' gazebo which also shelters the two gas grills. We are doing another major remodeling this winter, a 3 story addition with decks which will give us 9 bedrooms and 7 baths, with the new decks adding over 740 square feet. The addition and decks will allow us to accommodate even larger family groups and reunions, boosting our capacity to 19. It also will restore our view of the ocean which gradually got blocked by some of the MacMansions built the last few years. One has 20 bedrooms; I don't know why they would not be considered a small hotel. The new VB city rules specify one parking space per bedroom, I have twelve spaces so even with the addition I will have extra. I have been planning this addition for over ten years, so this is sort of a dream come true; it will be almost like adding a new house. We are also remodeling the first floor kitchen, as well as many other upgrades including furniture. Two king BR, two queen BR, bunk room with own bath with triple bunk and twin sleeps 4. BR 6 has triple bunk, but with new addition will probably make this a double futon and put the triple bunk/ futon in one of the new rooms. New bedrooms 7, 8, 9 will have double or triple futons and full baths, or may make one a queen bedroom when I get better idea of how each room looks in finished form. New pool room will have triple bunk. Rec room with queen sofa bed and double futon. We have upgrades every year, and the prior major remodel was in 2010: Upgraded Kitchen W/ Granite Counter Tops & New Appliances, enlarged Master Bath With Marble Accents, Main Bath downstairs marble with an enlarged shower in bathroom which is convenient and private for down King and Queen Bedrooms. We will be adding about 744 sq. ft. of decks on the South side on second, third and fourth floors or levels and getting our ocean view back. This will also result in a great expansion of our private fenced backyard and give us a big increase in area for poolside lounging with added seating and patio tables. We will be able to accommodate even larger family get- to-gethers and reunions. Additional features are the downstairs kitchenette with 2nd refrigerator and microwave, hot plate & oven off the rec room. We will also add a refrigerator in the pool room in the first floor of the addition which will be even more convenient to the pool area. There is a spacious front deck with second patio dining set and ample parking in the driveway and gravel front yard. AC/heat-pump each floor, 7 smart TV's for streaming, hi speed wireless internet access, basketball, ping pong, volleyball. Adding pickle ball court in driveway. NOTE on Taxes: The City of Virginia Beach collects a separate lodging Tax of 9.5%. At least in Sandbridge we get some of this amount back in the form of sand replenishment which keeps us in the top ten lists. We refund cancellations up to three months prior to arrival, or cancellations for any reason if we are able to re-book the property for that week. Any no cancellation policy note sent in quotes and invoices from VRBO is incorrect. The main shopping area is about 7 miles, and downtown Virginia Beach with many attractions is 20 minutes drive. There is a very well stocked local grocery in walking distance with a great deli, as well as a good restaurant next to it. There are many restaurants in the large shopping area seven miles away as well five large grocery stores including a Super-Walmart. For activities we have a pool volleyball set, outdoor ping-pong , and will be adding a pickleball set for the driveway along with basketball goal. One of most fun games ever for me was pool volleyball. No skinned knees when you dive for those edge balls. We love having family groups and reunions. Having the privilege of hosting a family reunion makes all the hard work worthwhile. We offer a lot of inter-generational games so all ages can enjoy. Part of this year's upgrades will be an outdoor ping-pong table to free up space. in rec room. We are always looking for ideas for improving the games and amenities, in fact everything about the experience; and have gotten some excellent ideas over the years. One that we will be implementing this year is a handrail in the middle of the pool steps to aid exit and entry. We are also working on a permanent solution to grass around the pool. I do not use herbicides since we have so many kids(not that adults shouldn't also avoid them) and I think we will have it solved between concrete and vinegar and salt. We really don't have time for lawn care during the season, on turnover days we have to go all out to ensure a high standard of cleanliness. One of our many goals is to make vacations at Beach Bird as easy and relaxing as possible. That's why we supply a comprehensive list of pool and beach equipment and toys as well as baby and toddler equipment like port-crib, Pak-N-Play, strollers, and high-chair. We also offer an optional complete linen package including beach towels, bath and hand towels, washcloths, sheets and pillow cases for the nominal amount of $150. The idea is to make it as easy as possible for packing the car and during your stay. Same for supplying laundry and dish soap, hand soap dispensers, basic spices. These are all items that is is a nuisance to purchase for just one week. Other larger beach and water toys like surfboards, kayaks, bikes are available at several rental venues including Ocean Rentals which is less than a mile away and when I last checked, will deliver. We are always open to suggestions for these amenities, so if you arrive and need something not on list call us and we will obtain it usually the same day.

Cancellation policy: we give a full refund if property is rented for same amount,. Only choice given is super-strict but in fact we are not if given sufficient notice to re-rent. Please note that Homeaway/VRBO fee is not refundable. Non-smoking means in or out, use the vacation to quit! Minimum $100 extra cleaning fee for any cigarette butts found. Changeover day Saturday.

We took over management of Beach Bird in 2011 from an agency to better serve our guests. Thanks to Homeaway this was not as daunting as expected; it turns out everything is done online now anyway. We get to meet and know our guests and this has been very rewarding; there are some really great folks out there and providing them with a first class vacation has been a wonderful experience. When you have guests relaxing and having a good time it makes all the hard work worthwhile.

For me Beach Bird was love at first sight; my real estate agent wanted to turn around and leave immediately. All the windows and doors were frosted and furnishings were pretty basic, but I liked the layout and location in the low-traffic North End. You would never guess now with the large pool and gazebo but the backyard was a bramble path. But there were great views, and the owner had already installed solar hot water, so we already had a start on my goal of going solar.We now have a solar pool heater and this year hope to start on our PV solar project. Every off season we were busy remodeling starting with the doors and windows. Some day maybe I'll get to stay there a few days without working and see what it's like!
What makes this House unique
Over the years as Sandbridge has become busier I have come to appreciate the North End more and more. You can walk or bike ride without worrying about busy traffic, and crossing the street to the beach path is never an issue, the neighbors have been great and we have tried to be selective in having guests who like to relax and enjoy peace and quiet on their vacation. We have made the backyard pool area into an oasis where you can relax by the pool and keep and eye on the kids in comfortable reclining patio chairs out of the hot sun under the gazebo cooled by the ocean breeze. I'm sure that sounds like hype but we do actually get an afternoon rising convection sea breeze most afternoons when I'm taking a break from the remodeling; it's my favorite spot.
